Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 1.1%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Thursday.
Shares of Ashok Leyland Ltd.(up 0.27 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Bharat Forge Ltd.(down 4.68 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(down 2.97 per cent), Exide Industries Ltd.(down 2.25 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(down 2.25 per cent) and MRF Ltd.(down 2.08 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 1.1 per cent down at 20554.05.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 73.3 points at 22397.2, while the BSE Sensex stood down 200.85 points at 73828.91.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 15 ended in the green, while 35 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Zomato, Tata Steel and Suzlon Energy were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of NACL Industries, ARSS Infra, Avanti Feeds, Bohra Industries and Sarda Energy hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Udayshivakumar Infra, GSS Infotech, Coastal Corp, Vaishali Pharma and Dangee Dums hit their fresh 52-week lows.
