Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.85%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Friday.
Shares of Exide Industries Ltd.(up 1.07 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(up 0.77 per cent), Ashok Leyland Ltd.(up 0.48 per cent) and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(up 0.36 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, MRF Ltd.(down 3.97 per cent), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 2.45 per cent), Apollo Tyres Ltd.(down 2.11 per cent), Bosch Ltd.(down 1.89 per cent) and Bharat Forge Ltd.(down 1.74 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.85 per cent down at 22541.35.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 172.36 points at 22475.85, while the BSE Sensex stood down 732.96 points at 73878.15.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 15 ended in the green, while 35 closed in the red.
Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, BHEL, NHPC and IFCI were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Rane Brake Lin, Arrow Greentech, Oriental Hotels, Univastu India and Hindustan Zinc hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Adroit Infotech (PP), Emami Paper Mil, Ibull Housing Fin(PP), Signpost India and Osia Hyper Retail hit their fresh 52-week lows.
