Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.76%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Monday.
Shares of Bharat Forge Ltd.(up 0.64 per cent), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(up 0.4 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(up 0.34 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd.(up 0.33 per cent) and Tube Investments of India Ltd.(up 0.17 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Balkrishna Industries Ltd.(down 5.55 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(down 2.04 per cent), TVS Motor Company Ltd.(down 1.62 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(down 1.27 per cent) and Ashok Leyland Ltd.(down 1.23 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.76 per cent down at 16777.3.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 37.8 points at 19694.0, while the BSE Sensex stood down 139.58 points at 65655.15.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 20 ended in the green, while 29 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, RattanIndia Power, Reliance Power and Suzlon Energy were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Talbros Auto, DRC Systems India, Tokyo Plast Int, Tata Investment and SML Isuzu hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Rajesh Exports, Penta Gold, Debock Sales & Mktg, SS Infrastructure and ASK Automotive hit their fresh 52-week lows.
