Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.68%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.
Shares of Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(up 0.56 per cent), Exide Industries Ltd.(up 0.39 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(up 0.25 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd.(up 0.21 per cent) and TVS Motor Company Ltd.(up 0.07 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Bosch Ltd.(down 2.64 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(down 1.39 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd.(down 1.28 per cent), Eicher Motors Ltd.(down 1.17 per cent) and Tube Investments of India Ltd.(down 0.92 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.68 per cent down at 23437.05.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 73.75 points at 24752.45, while the BSE Sensex stood down 239.31 points at 81312.32.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 14 ended in the green, while 36 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, ITC, IFCI, Belrise Industries and Suzlon Energy were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Apollo Micro Systems, Belrise Industries, GSK Pharma, Force Motors and Astra Microwave hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Capital India Fin, Orchid Pharma, Borana Weaves, NIIT Learning System and California Soft(PP)hit their fresh 52-week lows.
