Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.38%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Tuesday.
Shares of MRF Ltd.(up 1.27 per cent), Balkrishna Industries Ltd.(up 0.76 per cent), Exide Industries Ltd.(up 0.67 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd.(up 0.64 per cent) and Ashok Leyland Ltd.(up 0.03 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Bharat Forge Ltd.(down 1.93 per cent), TVS Motor Company Ltd.(down 1.61 per cent), Bosch Ltd.(down 1.54 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd.(down 1.47 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 0.85 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.38 per cent down at 23852.9.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 61.21 points at 25522.5, while the BSE Sensex stood up 270.01 points at 83712.51.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 26 ended in the green, while 24 closed in the red.
Shares of JP Power, Vodafone Idea, Alok Industries, RattanIndia Power and PC Jeweller were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Sambhv Steel Tubes, Belrise Industries, Parsvnath Dev., Gabriel India and Ellenbarrie Ind. Gas hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Nectar Lifesc, PVP Ventures Ltd., Sadhana Nitro, Creative Peripherals and Anisha Impex hit their fresh 52-week lows.
