Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.28%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Thursday.
Shares of Apollo Tyres Ltd.(up 1.92 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(up 0.92 per cent), Exide Industries Ltd.(up 0.35 per cent), MRF Ltd.(up 0.35 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(up 0.13 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Bharat Forge Ltd.(down 2.58 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(down 1.48 per cent), Ashok Leyland Ltd.(down 1.04 per cent), TVS Motor Company Ltd.(down 0.73 per cent) and Eicher Motors Ltd.(down 0.6 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.28 per cent down at 22344.3.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 13.85 points at 23031.4, while the BSE Sensex stood down 32.11 points at 76138.97.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 25 ended in the green, while 25 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, Tata Steel, YES Bank, Suzlon Energy and SAIL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Redington, Muthoot Finance, Dr. Agarwals Health, SBI Card and Norben Tea Exp hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Albert David, Swelect Energy, Kavita Fabrics, W S Industries and Balaxi Pharma hit their fresh 52-week lows.
