Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.22%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Friday.
Shares of Ashok Leyland Ltd.(up 1.94 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd.(up 1.3 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(up 0.52 per cent) and Bharat Forge Ltd.(up 0.02 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, TVS Motor Company Ltd.(down 2.32 per cent), Exide Industries Ltd.(down 1.95 per cent), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 1.58 per cent), Balkrishna Industries Ltd.(down 1.34 per cent) and Bosch Ltd.(down 0.71 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.22 per cent down at 23419.6.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 42.05 points at 22530.7, while the BSE Sensex stood up 75.71 points at 73961.31.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 18 ended in the green, while 27 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, NHPC, YES Bank, Canara Bank and Zomato were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Techno Electric, Bharat Rasayan, J Kumar Infra, Jindal Stainless and WABCO India hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Sadhana Nitro, Revathi Equipment, Tatva Chintan Pharma Chem, Awfis Space Solution and Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels hit their fresh 52-week lows.
