Stock market update: Nifty Auto index advances 0.4%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a positive note on Wednesday.
Shares of Apollo Tyres Ltd.(up 3.65 per cent), Bharat Forge Ltd.(up 3.28 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(up 2.9 per cent), Balkrishna Industries Ltd.(up 2.87 per cent) and Exide Industries Ltd.(up 2.16 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 0.85 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(down 0.78 per cent), Eicher Motors Ltd.(down 0.52 per cent) and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(down 0.09 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.4 per cent up at 21319.5.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 73.3 points at 22907.6, while the BSE Sensex stood up 147.79 points at 75449.05.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 32 ended in the green, while 18 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, Ola Electric Mobilit, JP Power, YES Bank and Suzlon Energy were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Swaraj Engines, Vadilal Ind, Ajax Engineering, Camlin Fine Sc and Muthoot Finance hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while N R Agarwal Ind, Kesoram Inds., Dhruv Consultancy, Gujarat Lease and Impex Ferro Tech hit their fresh 52-week lows.
