Stock market update: Nifty Auto index advances 0.01%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a positive note on Monday.
Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(up 1.65 per cent), MRF Ltd.(up 1.36 per cent), Bharat Forge Ltd.(up 1.29 per cent), Eicher Motors Ltd.(up 0.52 per cent) and Exide Industries Ltd.(up 0.13 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(down 1.79 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(down 1.43 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd.(down 1.1 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd.(down 1.09 per cent) and Balkrishna Industries Ltd.(down 0.9 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.01 per cent up at 23327.05.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 34.11 points at 24716.6, while the BSE Sensex stood down 77.26 points at 81373.75.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 20 ended in the green, while 30 closed in the red.
Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, Reliance Power, Suzlon Energy and Niva Bupa Health Ins were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of AstraZeneca, IFB Agro, Pennar Ind, Lumax Auto Tech and Reliance Infra hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Shree Ram Proteins, SKIL Infrastructure, Techindia Nirman, Mittal Life Style and Varanium Cloud hit their fresh 52-week lows.
