Stock market update: FMCG stocks down as market falls

Retail and banking stocks rose 0.5 per cent and 0.7 per cent, respectively.
NEW DELHI: FMCG shares closed lower in the Friday's session.

Hindustan Foods(up 2.96%), Britannia Industries(up 1.06%), Bajaj Consumer(up 1.05%), Dangee Dums(up 0.80%), DFM Foods(up 0.68%), Nestle India(up 0.55%), Hatsun Agro Product Ltd(up 0.49%), Mrs Bectors Food Specialities(up 0.39%) and Godrej Consumer Products(up 0.10%) stood among the top gainers.

Vadilal Industries(down 5.54%), Dodla Dairy(down 3.63%), Dabur India(down 3.47%), Future Consumer(down 3.13%), Prataap Snacks(down 3.12%), ADF Foods(down 2.48%), Tasty Bite Eatables(down 1.75%), Sheetal Cool Products(down 1.73%), Umang Dairies(down 1.06%) and Heritage Foods(down 1.01%) were among the top losers of the day.


The NSE Nifty50 index ended 132.7 points down at 17859.45, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 452.9 points at 59900.37.

Britannia Industries(up 1.06%), Mahindra & Mahindra(up 0.98%), Reliance Industries(up 0.91%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation(up 0.69%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(up 0.58%), Bajaj Auto(up 0.58%), Nestle India(up 0.55%), ITC(up 0.48%), HDFC LIFE INSURANCE(up 0.36%) and SBI Life(up 0.11%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Tata Consultancy(down 3.01%), JSW Steel(down 2.98%), IndusInd Bank(down 2.79%), Bajaj Finserv(down 2.62%), Tech Mahindra(down 2.52%), Bajaj Finance(down 1.96%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 1.84%), Infosys(down 1.81%), Coal India(down 1.79%) and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone(down 1.65%) closed in the red.
