Stock market update: FMCG stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: FMCG shares closed lower in the Monday's session.

Parag Milk(up 3.78%), Jyothy Labs(up 1.83%), P & G Hygiene(up 1.48%), Umang Dairies(up 1.29%), Mrs Bectors Food Specialities(up 1.00%), Emami(up 0.91%), TATA CONSUMER PRODUCTS(up 0.49%), Britannia Industries(up 0.37%), Dangee Dums(up 0.34%) and Varun Beverages(up 0.30%) stood among the top gainers.

Hindustan Foods(down 6.14%), Nakoda Group(down 5.00%), DFM Foods(down 4.40%), Euro India Fresh Foods(down 4.21%), JHS Svendgaard Laboratories(down 2.91%), Future Consumer(down 2.63%), Gillette India(down 2.59%), Colgate Palmolive(India)(down 2.54%), Bajaj Consumer(down 2.20%) and Marico(down 1.76%) were among the top losers of the day.


The NSE Nifty50 index ended 88.45 points down at 16631.0, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 306.01 points at 55766.22.

Tata Steel(up 2.63%), IndusInd Bank(up 2.08%), Coal India(up 1.93%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprises(up 1.57%), Hindalco Industries(up 1.52%), UPL Ltd(up 1.23%), Asian Paints(up 1.22%), HCL Technologies(up 1.13%), Wipro(up 0.96%) and Larsen & Toubro(up 0.83%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra(down 3.83%), Reliance Industries(down 3.3%), Maruti Suzuki(down 2.37%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(down 2.0%), Eicher Motors(down 1.93%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 1.73%), SBI Life(down 1.72%), HDFC LIFE INSURANCE(down 1.54%), Grasim Industries(down 1.5%) and Cipla(down 1.27%) closed in the red.
