Stock market update: FMCG stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: FMCG shares closed lower in the Thursday's session.

JHS Svendgaard Laboratories(up 1.86%), Dangee Dums(up 1.33%), Emami(up 0.87%), Jyothy Labs(up 0.48%), Bajaj Consumer(up 0.14%) and Gillette India(up 0.13%) stood among the top gainers.

Euro India Fresh Foods(down 4.55%), Hind.Foods(down 3.27%), Umang Dairies(down 2.85%), Vadilal Industries(down 2.82%), Nakoda Group(down 2.74%), Dabur India(down 2.53%), Hatsun Agro Product Ltd(down 2.38%), Nestle India(down 2.16%), P & G Hygiene(down 1.70%) and Godrej Consumer Products(down 1.68%) were among the top losers of the day.


The NSE Nifty50 index ended 167.8 points down at 17110.15, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 581.21 points at 57276.94.

Axis Bank(up 2.88%), State Bank of India(up 2.78%), Maruti Suzuki(up 2.53%), Cipla(up 2.42%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(up 1.87%), Indian Oil Corporation(up 1.03%), Bajaj Auto(up 0.92%), Tata Motors(up 0.78%), Hindalco Industries(up 0.7%) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(up 0.5%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, HCL Technologies(down 4.09%), Tech Mahindra(down 3.67%), Dr Reddys Laboratories(down 3.33%), Tata Consultancy(down 3.2%), Wipro(down 3.19%), Titan Company Ltd(down 2.8%), Divis Laboratories(down 2.7%), Infosys(down 2.53%), UPL Ltd(down 2.43%) and Hero MotoCorp(down 2.41%) closed in the red.
