Share market update: Most active stocks of the day in terms of traded value

The NSE Nifty index closed 156.0 points down at 16637.9

Nifty moved in a tight range of 82 points, and ended slightly below the psychologically crucial level of 15,700.

NEW DELHI: Tata Steel(Rs. 3104.93 crore), HDFC Bank(Rs. 2548.95 crore), Hindalco(Rs. 2452.69 crore), RIL(Rs. 2252.56 crore), HDFC Life(Rs. 2124.59 crore), HDFC(Rs. 1865.63 crore), ICICI Bank(Rs. 1737.37 crore), Maruti Suzuki(Rs. 1375.85 crore), Coal India Ltd(Rs. 1280.88 crore) and Tata Motors(Rs. 1123.49 crore) were among the most traded securities on the National Stock Exchange in Wednesday's session.

The NSE Nifty index ended the session 156.0 points down at 16637.9, while BSE Sensex fell 778.38 points to 55468.9.

In the Nifty index, Coal India Ltd.(up 8.91 per cent), HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd.(up 7.25 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd.(up 5.75 per cent), SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd.(up 5.66 per cent) and Hindalco Industries Ltd.(up 4.51 per cent) stood among the top gainers.

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 5.87 per cent), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd.(down 5.28 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd.(down 4.55 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(down 4.41 per cent) and Asian Paints Ltd.(down 4.37 per cent) were among the top losers of the day.
