We may see some positives for OMCs: Advent Advisors

KR Bharat, MD, Advent Advisors, in a chat with ET Now talks about oil marketing pack.

A lot of people are extrapolating what has happened with fertilisers to probably the oil marketing companies as well. In these inflationary times, do you really think that that can be extrapolated and some positive can come out for the oil marketing pack?

Let’s not mix inflation or anything else with this. If there is intent, then anything can happen at any time. Then all excuses can be ignored. Then it does not matter what the inflation levels are, none of these factors matter. If there is intent, it will happen. If the intent is not there, then it would not happen regardless of whether the environment is conducive or not conducive. I am only hoping from what we have been seeing recently that the intent is there and that we will see deliveries soon.

Can fuel prices be increased? Would that be a sensitive move and rightly timed at this juncture?

We are severely woefully short on infrastructure whether it is roads, power, coal, ports etc. We are severely short in terms of education, we have serious problems in terms of the pharma sector and if as a nation we are going to get wealthier, then aspirationally Indians will move from low level products into higher level products whether you are talking about a shift from Bidi to cigarettes or from a country liquor to IMFL or you are talking about moving from cycles to motorcycles, to cars.

If India is to move aggressively forward in terms of economic growth, then these are the sectors that I would be looking at and within these sectors clearly look at cheap companies run by good management where there is high growth potential over two to seven years time.
