Trade deficit data boosts Sensex; what traders should ‘buy’ or ‘sell’

NEW DELHI: NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Sensex recouped all its morning losses of over 100 points in afternoon trade on Wednesday and turned positive, led by gains in Sun Pharma, Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank Ltd.

Sensex picked up momentum after September trade deficit data came lower than expected. Trade deficit for September came at $6.76 bn as compared to $10.9 bn in August. On a YoY basis, trade deficit came at $80.12 bn as compared to $91.82 bn reported in the previous quarter last year.

According to analysts, the market is likely to remain rangebound in the near term on concerns over the impact of the government shutdown in the US. Second quarter results are also likely to remain subdued due to lack of demand in tough economic environment.

At 12:00 p.m.; the 50-share index was at 5,960.40, up 32 points or 0.55 per cent. The index touched intraday high of 5,967.40 and a low of 5,877.10.
