MUMBAI: The Nifty gained momentum and near day’s high on the back of buying by institutional investors after the government eased FDI cap in almost a dozen sectors.

According to analysts, the market is likely to consolidate in the near term as it faces resistance at 6,000 level and take cues from global markets and earnings for direction.

At 01:15 p.m.; the 50-share index was at 5,986.35, up 31.10 points or 0.52 per cent. It touched a high of 5,989.80 and a low of 5,962.60 in trade today.

The S&P BSE Sensex was at 19,965.87, up 114.64 points or 0.58 per cent. It touched a high of 19,982.75 and a low of 19,881.19 in trade today.
