Pressure likely on lending & deposit rates in 2nd hlf '10:JP Morgan

JP Morgan Analyst, Gunjan Gulati, speaks to ET Now on likely changes in lending/deposit rates.

Gunjan Gulati, Economist, J.P. Morgan

You have seen this. Is this the first out of many that you can expect on deposit rate increases now?

Well, probably yes. The bigger question right now is about the lending rates and we need to see how lending rates will move from hereon in reaction to the slower credit demand and on the other hand, monetary tightening by the RBI; so it will be a mixed story from hereon. Though the credit demand remains quite weak, we would see some pressure slowly and steadily in the second half of this year on both the lending rates as well as deposit rates.
