Clueless on Dalal Street
It was shocking for Arathi Gunjikkar, a 35-year-old retail share market investor residing in Central Mumbai, when the police officer, who is investigating her complaint against a stock broker.
In her bid to get back the money, Ms Gunjikkar lodged a complaint with the economic offences wing (EOW) of the Mumbai City Police. However, the case was handed over to the local police station (where the complainant resides), as EOW only investigates complaints where claims are higher.
As Ms Gunjikkar explained the case to the investigating officer, the cop, in a rather lazy manner, said, Yeh, NSE kya hai madam? I dont understand all this. And I dont think, Ill be able to learn now. Ganpati is coming, there are bomb scares across the city, there is water logging to be taken care of during rains.
I am not sure, how I will be able to help you, the cop said. According to Ms Gunjikkar, the Mumbai police, for sure, lack a crack team to investigate cases pertaining to the stock market.
