Wipro gives 4.5 mn restricted stock units to employees

The RSUs this time were given only for senior managers & do not include middle managers like last time, said Saurabh Govil, senior vice president of HR.

BANGALORE: India's third-largest information technology firm Wipro has granted 4.5 million restricted stock units to about 1,200 employees. These RSUs have a vesting period of five years, and the last time such a large number of RSUs were given was in 2010.

However, the RSUs this time were given only for the senior managers and do not include middle managers like last time, said Saurabh Govil, senior vice president of human relations. The number of stocks given in 2010 were similar to this year.

""We (industry and company) are going through a transition and cannot be accommodating anymore. Days of hiring in large numbers are gone and it is about high performance now,"" said Govil.

Wipro started its RSU plan around eight years ago.
