Videocon shares hit upper circuit; BSE CD Index up 2%

MUMBAI: Videocon shares were locked at 5 per cent upper circuit on the company’s plans to diversify into power generation.

At 11:31 am, amid choppy trade, the BSE Consumer Durables Index was the biggest sectoral gainer, up 2.2 per cent, on the back of gains in Videocon. The Videocon shares was up 5 per cent at Rs 452.35.

The company has identified a place between Varanasi and Mirzapur to set up a 1000-mw thermal power station at an investment of Rs 4,000 crore.

Apart from this, Videocon is also planning to set up a Rs 1,000 crore high technology PV manufacturing plant near Varanasi, which will employ around 1,500 people. The company is also coming up with the first solar SEZ plant in the country, which it plans to set up in Uttar Pradesh.
