NEW DELHI: Shares of Unichem Laboratories, among India’s oldest pharma company, surged over 4 per cent in Thursday's trade after the company received US drug regulator nod for its generic Quetiapine Fumarate tablets used for treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Reacting to the development, the scrip gained 4.5 per cent to hit a high of Rs 241.40 on the BSE.

"The company has received Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for Quetiapine Fumarate tablets," Unichem Laboratories said in a filing to BSE.

The company currently has a total of 21 ANDA approvals from the USFDA.
