Shares of Vijay Mallya-controlled UB Group companies jumped as speculation resurfaced that the world's largest spirits company Diageo, manufacturer of Johnnie Walker Whiskey, may be in talks with the group's top brass to buy a stake.
Top UB Group officials were not available for comment.
United Breweries Holdings jumped 20% to Rs 70.80, United Breweries soared 7.2% to Rs 516 and United Spirits rose 6.4% to Rs 677.40 on Wednesday.
Talk of a stake sale to Diageo has triggered intermittent spurts in shares of UB Group companies in the last six months.
