For the day, the 30-share Sensex closed 0.74 per cent or 232.24 points higher at 31,685.75, while 50-share Nifty gained 0.71 per cent or 65.30 points to close at 9,270.90.

> Supreme Petrochem bought back 10,68,000 shares in the company at Rs 163.80 a share, according to data from NSE.
