NSE chair man Ashok Chawla, in a letter to the employees of the exchange on Tuesday, termed the trading halt on Monday as a "black swan event". "Yesterday's technical glitch is one more straw on the camel's back," Chawla said.

Trading was halted for three hours at the country's largest stock exchange due to a software glitch.

The letter mentions NSE's challenges on the organisational front,stress over the legacy technology issues, re-energising of relations with stakeholders across the spectrum from the regulator to shareholders.

He wrote: "The year FY 20162017 has been a year of many highs and lows for all of us at the National Stock Exchange. We have done well financially and continued our robust market presence. Today I am writing to convey that we are no doubt passing through difficult times but that we shall overcome."
