Shares of United Spirits surge as much as 8.32 per cent on news that Diageo may raise stake in the liquor maker to 72 per cent from 54.78 per cent. A TV report suggests Diageo is exploring various options, including open market transactions. BSE is reported to be seeking clarification from United Spirits on the TV report. Live chart here



@2.53 PM: Shares of Coal India fall 3 per cent after it posted a 3.4 percent drop in April coal output while its offtake was down 2.5 per cent.

@1.15 PM: Shares of HDFC rose by over 2 per cent after the company reported a jump of nearly 31 per cent in consolidated net profit for the March quarter. The stock gained 2.12 per cent to Rs 1,116 on BSE. The company's net profit after taxes was Rs 2,646.35 crore in January-March quarter of 2014-15. Live chart here

@1.01 PM: EUROPEAN MARKETS OPEN: European shares fall, with Commerzbank leading the market lower after a profit slump, while mining stocks weakened as they tracked a decline in metals prices. Commerzbank shares fell 6.4 per cent after the German bank posted a 52 percent drop in first-quarter net profit, hit by volatile capital markets and the drag on earnings from low interest rates.

@12.50 PM: Sensex pares all gains, down 31 points. RCL Retail, Interlink Petro, Cal Refineries among stocks that hit their respective 52-week lows at this hour.



@12.36 PM: Here's a look at the stocks that are on a high.. FMCG stock Marico hit its 52-week high at Rs 269 in Tuesday's trade, but then slipped lower. The stock traded between Rs 258 and Rs 269 during the first half of the day. Among others, UPL, L&T Finance, IndusInd Bank, Shriram Transport Finance, Biocon, SKS Microfinance and Ramco Cements also hit new 52-week highs during the session. Live chart here

Shares of CCL Products surged over 14 per cent after the company said its net profit grew 70 per cent year-on-year to Rs 36.66 crore. The company had reported net profit of Rs 21.53 crore for the same quarter of last financial year. Live chart here

@10.14 AM: Shares of Reliance Defence and Engineering climbed over 5 per cent in morning trade amid reports that the subsidiary of the company Reliance Infrastructure has received 15 industrial licences, taking the parent’s total licences to 25, the highest number of permits across the spectrum that any private sector company has. @9.55 AM: The broader market traded in line with benchmark indexes with the BSE midcap and smallcap indexes gaining 0.66 and 0.72 per cent, respectively.

@9.40 AM: Adani Ports, Tata Motors, L&T, HDFC, and NTPC lead gains in the Sensex pack while Sun Pharma, Coal India, Gail, TCS, and Wipro are the top losers.

@9.20 AM: The S&P BSE Sensex edged higher in early morning trade on Tuesday, gaining over 200 points led by gains in HDFC, HDFC Bank, L&T, Adani Ports and Tata Motors.

OPENING BELL: Sensex gains 70 points, Nifty50 holds above 7,800; GAIL, Hero Moto up 2% each; Sun Pharma down 4%.
