NEW DELHI: Shares of Torrent Pharmaceuticals declined nearly 4 per cent to Rs 1,538.05 in Wednesday's session amid reports that the company voluntarily recalled two lots of Losartan Potassium tablets due to the detection of trace amounts of an unexpected impurity found in API.

ETNow reported quoting sources that the company has recalled 2 lots of Losartan Potassium tablets as the impurity detected in API classified as a probable human carcinogen.

The report further added that the company is facing proposed class action in New Jersey Federal Court and the lawsuit alleges medications contaminated with possible cancer-causing chemicals.


Torrent Pharma reported a loss of Rs 152 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2019. It had posted a profit of Rs 228 crore in the same quarter of 2017-18 financial year.

The net loss of Rs 152 crore in the latest quarter is on account of exceptional items of Rs 357 crore and lower hedging gains, the company said.

The shares of the company closed 3.11 per cent lower at Rs 1551.25 on BSE.
