Trinamool Congress's member of Parliament Mahua Moitra has filed a complaint with the Lokpal against Sebi chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch alleging improper conduct and entering into quid pro quo arrangements, "threatening India's national interests".

Lawyers said this complaint could put the matter under larger scrutiny as it's the first legal authority to whom a complaint has been formally filed. Lokpal would have to examine the complaint, whether it falls under the prevention of corruption act, the lawyer said.

Moitra posted the complaint dated September 11 on social media platform 'X'.

In a separate development, Buch on Thursday skipped speaking at an infra conclave in Mumbai. Her absence surprised many as she had confirmed to speak at the event until Wednesday. She was among the key speakers along with NaBFID chief KV Kamath and RBI deputy governor Rajeshwar Rao.
