MUMBAI: Shares of telecom companies were in action ahead of the ministerial panel meet to take a call on highly contentious issue of spectrum refarming.

The panel headed by Finance Minister P Chidambaram will meet to today to decide the reallocation of the spectrum in the superior 900 MHz band with the less efficient 1800 MHz band.

The panel will also decide if refarming should be full or partial.

According to reports, the Telecom Commission has prepared its response refarming issue and will be presenting the same before the EGoM.

The Commission had recommended that mobile phone carriers give up all their airwave holding in the superior 900 mega hertz band at the time of their permit renewals. It had favoured complete refarming at the time of renewal.

Bharti Airtel was up 4.44 per cent, Tata Communications gained 2.53 per cent and Reliance Communications moved up 1.67 per cent.
