Shares of sugar companies were down on profit booking after the the Cabinet Committee deferred the sugar decontrol proposal yesterday.

MUMBAI: Shares of sugar companies were down on profit booking after the the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs deferred the sugar decontrol proposal yesterday in absence of Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Defence Minister AK Antony and Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

The amendments to the Food Security Bill were also deferred by a day in the absence of the ministers.

At 10:05 a.m.; Balrampur Chini Mills was down 2.24 per cent, Bajaj Hindusthan was 2.39 per cent lower, Dhampur Sugar was 3.20 per cent lower, Simbhaoli Sugar fell 6.34 per cent and Sakthi Sugars was 3.75 per cent lower.
