Reliance Industries is learnt to be talking to three mid-sized oil companies ��� Australia���s Santos, Devon Energy and AARCO of the US ��� to bid for oil and gas blocks in the seventh round of the New Exploration Licencing Policy. Shares of Reliance Industries ended up 3.66 per cent at Rs 2,622.65.

Tech Mahindra has bagged a $700-million contract from British Telecom for transforming and improving BT���s IT estate or infrastructure. This gives boost to Indian IT at a time when the US subprime crisis and talks of slowdown had dogged IT services companies. The stock ended at Rs 933.45 on the BSE.

Jain Irrigation Systems has signed an agreement to set up two projects at Jalgaon in Maharashtra, at an investment of Rs 550 crore. The two projects include production of micro-irrigation equipment, fruit and vegetable processing and tissue-culture. The stock ended at Rs 646.90 on the BSE.

Bharti Airtel���s run for taking over South African telecom major MTN has entered into a crucial negotiation phase. While Bharti is ready to acquire 51 per cent stake, MTN���s management wants it to but out the entire company. Bharti Airtel gained 0.92 per cent to close at Rs 856.20.

Wipro having business interests in IT, consumer care and hydraulic engineering is planning to enter the renewable energy business. Shares of Wipro gained 1.04 per cent to end at Rs 508.85.

Pressure is growing on Tata Motors' ability to hold the price tag of Rs 1 lakh for the Nano. Auto-component supplier Sona Koyo Steering System has approached the company for a price increase, reports Business Standard. Shares of Sona Koyo ended 1.39 per cent higher at Rs 40.20.
