Stock market update: Smallcaps outperform Sensex; Ujaas Energy zooms 20%

NEW DELHI: Smallcaps were outperforming benchmark Sensex during afternoon trade on Tuesday.

Around 1:15 pm, the BSE Smallcap index was 1.04 per cent up at 16,484, while the BSE Sensex was 0.63 per cent up at 36,159. The NSE Nifty50 was 0.64 per cent up at 10,922 around that time.

Shares of Ujaas Energy (up 19.93 per cent), Sathavahana Ispat (up 14.89 per cent), Bhageria Industries (up 12.34 per cent), Trident (up 11.62 per cent) and Shalimar Paints (up 10.15 per cent) were among the top gainers in the smallcap index.


On the other hand, Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), New Delhi Television (down 4.94 per cent), Sunil Hitech Engineers (down 4.93 per cent), JBF Industries (down 4.92 per cent) and Alok Industries (down 4.85 per cent) were among the top losers in the index around that time.

Market sentiment was positive amid firm global cues. Buying, led by bank, auto and IT stocks were keeping the equity benchmarks up.

In the Sensex index, 22 stocks were trading with gains, while 9 were incurring losses.

Bajaj Auto, Reliance Industries and Tata Steel were leading the pack of Sensex gainers.

However, Sun Pharma and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the top drags on the Sensex index.
