Stock market update: Smallcaps outpace Sensex; Sarda Energy & Minerals top gainer

In the Sensex index, 21 stocks were up, while 10 were down.
NEW DELHI: The BSE Smallcap index was trading 1.26 per cent up at 17,368 around 11:20 am on Monday, outperforming benchmark Sensex, that was 0.52 per cent up at 35,108 around that time.

The Nifty50 index was 0.60 per cent up at 10,669.

Sarda Energy & Minerals (up 16.52 per cent) was the top gainer in the smallcap index.


The scrip surged after it said in a BSE filing on Saturday that the Board of Directors at the Company recommended a dividend at Rs 5 per share (50 per cent) for the fiscal year 2017-18.

SpiceJet (up 13.42 per cent), Jindal Poly Films (up 12.43 per cent), DCM Shriram Industries (up 10.87 per cent) and Sharda Motor Industries (up 10.49 per cent) jumped over 10 per cent.

On the contrary, Manpasand Beverages plunged 20 per cent, emerging as the top losers in the index.

The stock touched 52-week low during Monday's trade after media reports emerged that Deloitte Haskins & Sells has resigned as Statutory Auditors of the company with effect from May 26, 2018.

Shares of Nandan Denim (down 13.79 per cent), Shriram EPC (down 7.14 per cent), PC Jeweller (down 6.70 per cent) and Excel Crop Care (down 6.55 per cent) also cracked in the smallcap index.
