Stock market update: Midcaps outperform Sensex; Cummins India, Torrent Power jump 5%

NEW DELHI: Midcaps were outperforming benchmark Sensex in afternoon trade on Tuesday.

Around 2:40 pm, the BSE Midcap index was 0.61 per cent up at 16,577.16, while the BSE Sensex was 0.11 per cent up at 38,320.85.

Cummins India (up 5.28 per cent), Torrent Power (up 4.95 per cent), GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (up 4.61 per cent), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals (up 4.34 per cent) and ABB India (up 3.78 per cent) were among the top gainers in the midcap index.


On the other hand, Page Industries (down 2.26 per cent), IIFL Holdings (down 2.06 per cent), Amara Raja Batteries (down 1.52 per cent), Tata Global Beverages (down 1.39 per cent) and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (down 1.34 per cent) were among the top losers in the index around the same time.

Equity benchmarks were nearly flat as gains in Reliance Industries, Sun Pharma, Coal India and TCS were offset by losses in Hindustan Unilever, Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank and State Bank of India.

In the Sensex kitty, 16 stocks were in the green, but 15 in the red.
