Stock market update: Midcaps outperform Sensex; Adani Power, Hudco lead among gainers

Shares of Adani Power (up 4.65 per cent) , Housing and Urban Development Corporation (Hudco) (up 3.19 per cent) , Max Financial Services (up 3.18 per cent) , Bharat Forge (up 2.63 per cent) and Container Corporation of India (up 2.62 per cent) were among the top gainers in the midcap index.
However, GE T&D India (down 2.30 per cent ) , IDFC Bank (down 2.30 per cent ) , Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management (down 2.23 per cent ) , Central Bank of India (down 2.08 per cent ) and The Ramco Cements (down 1.93 per cent ) were among the top losers in the index around the same time.
Equity benchmarks were in the negative territory as investors restricted their bets, awaiting RBI monetary policy outcome.
HDFC twins, ITC, ICICI Bank and Infosys were the top drags on the Sensex index.
Metal, finance, teck and FMCG sectors were in the red.
In the Sensex kitty, 17 stocks were advancing, while 14 were declining.
Reliance Industries was leading among Sensex scrips. The Oil-to-telecom behemoth on Tuesday surpassed TCS to become India's largest company in terms of market capitalisation.
Last week, the company had posted 3.85 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 9,459 crore for the quarter ended June.
