Stock market update: Midcaps & smallcaps underperform Sensex
Around 2:10 pm, the BSE Midcap index was trading 0.13 per cent up at 16,288, while the BSE Smallcap index was trading 0.12 per cent up at 16,748.

NEW DELHI: Midcaps and smallcaps were underperforming Sensex in afternoon trade on Thursday.
Around 2:10 pm, the BSE Midcap index was trading 0.13 per cent up at 16,288, while the BSE Smallcap index was trading 0.12 per cent up at 16,748. The BSE Sensex was 0.27 per cent up at 38,123 around that time.
Shares of Housing and Urban Development Corporation (up 7.64 per cent), Cummins India (up 5.14 per cent), Torrent Power (up 4.62 per cent), Biocon (up 4.36 per cent) and Godrej Agrovet (up 3.47 per cent) were among the top gainers in the midcap index.
Adani Enterprises (down 21.47 per cent), National Aluminium Company (Nalco) (down 6.82 per cent), Shriram Transport Finance Company (down 4.10 per cent), Vakrangee (down 3.60 per cent) and GE T&D India (down 3.38 per cent) were among the top losers in the midcap index.
On the other hand, shares of Nandan Denim (up 15.83 per cent), Star Paper Mills (up 12.86 per cent), Centum Electronics (up 10.25 per cent), Moschip Semiconductor Technology (up 8.61 per cent) and West Coast Paper Mills (up 7.42 per cent) were among the top smallcap gainers.
Sanghvi Movers (down 6.02 per cent), Rane Engine Valve (down 5.77 per cent), Techno Electric & Engineering Company (down 5.17 per cent), MIC Electronics (down 5 per cent) and JBF Industries (down 4.99 per cent) were among the top losers in the smallcap index around the same time.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 31 were trading in the green, while 19 were in the red.
In the Sensex kitty of stocks, 19 stocks were advancing and 12 stocks were declining in trade.
