Stock market update: MidCap stocks advance; Varroc Engg surges 14%

NEW DELHI: MidCap stocks were trading higher at 12:59PM (IST) on Thursday.
Shares of Varroc Engineering (up 14.4 per cent), NHPC (up 9.31 per cent), Future Retail (up 8.39 per cent), Tata Power Company (up 8.11 per cent) and Sun TV Network (up 6.98 per cent) were among the top gainers.
While Muthoot Finance (down 4.96 per cent), Hindustan Aeronautics (down 3.86 per cent), Ajanta Pharma (down 2.84 per cent), Oberoi Realty (down 1.9 per cent) and ICICI Securities (down 1.79 per cent) were the top losers in the index.
The S&P BSE MidCap index was trading 0.67 per cent up at 14839.82 around 12:59PM.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 96.00 points at 11312.4, while the BSE Sensex was down 372.82 points at 38241.97.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 16 were trading in the green, while 34 were in the red.
Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, BHEL, Zee Ent. and Tata Power were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of ABB Power Products, Essel Propack, JSPL, Torrent Power and Atul Ltd hit their fresh 52 week high in today's trade, while Panth Infinity Ltd., Darshan Orna Ltd., Unishire Urban Infra Ltd., Leading Leasing Finance and Investment Company Ltd., Modulex Construction Technologies Ltd., N2N Technologies Ltd., Ajwa Fun World & Resorts Ltd., Omansh Enterprises Ltd., Sylph Technologies Ltd. and NEO Infracon Ltd. hit fresh 52 week low in trade.
