Stock market update: HPCL, IOC, BPCL boost oil & gas index

NEW DELHI: Strong gains in HPCL (up 5.27 per cent), Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) (up 4.46 per cent) and BPCL (up 2.74 per cent) gave a boost to oil & gas index during Monday's trade.

The BSE Oil & Gas index was trading 1.35 per cent up at 14,592 around 12:05 pm.

Shares of Petronet LNG (up 1.63 per cent) and Castrol India (up 1.38 per cent) were also trading with gains.


However, shares of Indraprastha Gas (down 0.61 per cent), ONGC (down 0.48 per cent), Oil India (down 0.41 per cent) and Reliance Industries (down 0.28 per cent) were under pressure.

Meanwhile, shares of GAIL (India) (up 0.03 per cent) were almost flat around that time.

Equity benchmarks were flat as gains in oil and auto stocks were offset by losses in metal, bank and IT stocks.

The BSE Sensex was 6 points down at 35,616, while the NSE Nifty50 index was flat at 10,817.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 24 were trading in the green, while 26 were in the red.

In the Sensex index, 13 stocks were advancing while 18 were declining.

ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki were leading the pack of Sensex gainers.
