Stock market update: Fertilizer stocks in the red; Southern Petro sheds over 4%

NEW DELHI: Most fertilizer stocks were trading in the red in Tuesday's afternoon session after eight core industries including fertilizers showed growth of 3 per cent in the April-July period, compared with 5.9 per cent in the year-ago period.

Shares of Southern Petrochemicals Industries (down 4.15 per cent), Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (down 2.93 per cent), GSFC (down 2.83 per cent), Nagarjuna Fertilizers & Chem (down 2.58 per cent), Fertilizers & Chemicals Tranvancore (down 2.57 per cent) and Bharat Agri Fert & Realty (down 2.36 per cent) were among the top losers.

Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers (down 2.31 per cent), Rama Phosphates (down 1.89 per cent) and MP Agro Industries (down 1.83 per cent) too were trading with losses.


While shares of Basant Agro Tech (India) (up 2.28 per cent), Aries Agro (up 0.97 per cent), Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilizers (up 0.17 per cent)and Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals (up 0.13 per cent) were trading in the green.

The NSE Nifty50 index was trading 151.50 points down at 10,871.75, the 30-share BSE Sensex was down 512.38 points at 36,820.41 at around 12:52 pm.

Tech Mahindra (up 2.36 per cent), Britannia Industries (up 1.48 per cent), HCL Technologies (up 1.22 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services (up 0.69 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp (up 0.31 per cent) were among top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Indian Oil Corporation (down 3.39 per cent), Tata Motors (down 3.38 per cent), ICICI Bank (down 3.36 per cent), UltraTech Cement (down 3.26 per cent) and Housing Development Finance Corporation (down 3.23 per cent) were trading in the red.
