Stock market update: Capital goods stocks mirror market's negative mood, fall up to 6%

NEW DELHI: Most capital goods stocks were suffering losses during afternoon trade on Tuesday, weighing on the sectoral index.

The BSE Capital Goods index was trading 0.87 per cent down at 18,025 around 01:25 pm.

CG Power and Industrial Solutions (down 6.56 per cent), HEG (down 4.31 per cent), Graphite India (down 2.97 per cent), Finolex Cables (down 2.93 per cent), Sadbhav Engineering (down 2.20 per cent) and Thermax (down 2.19 per cent) were the top losers in the index.


Shares of Siemens, Kalpataru Power Transmissions, NBCC (India) and Suzlon Energy tanked nearly 2 per cent.

Lakshmi Machine Works, Bharat Heavy Electricals, Havells India, BEML and Bharat Electronics declined over 1 per cent.

SKF India (down 0.95 per cent), ABB India (down 0.74 per cent), Larsen & Toubro (down 0.63 per cent), V-Guard Industries (down 0.46 per cent) and Elgi Equipments (down 0.38 per cent) were also in the red in the index.

Meanwhile, Dilip Buildcon (up 0.93 per cent), Carborundum Universal (up 0.59 per cent), Schaeffler India (up 0.39 per cent) and GE T&D India (up 0.18 per cent) were in the green around that time.

Equity benchmarks were down, tracking weakness in global stocks as the trade conflict between the US and China intensified.

The BSE Sensex was 217 points down at 35,332, while the NSE Nifty50 index was down 77 points at 10,723.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 8 were trading in the green, while 42 were in the red.

In the Sensex index, 7 stocks were in the green, while 24 were in the red.

Vedanta, Bajaj Auto and Infosys were among the top losers in the Sensex index.
