Stock, forex, bond, commodity markets closed for Ambedkar Jayanti

After last week’s sharp recovery, benchmark indices closed in the red on Monday.

Globally, equities weakened on Monday as investors braced for more indications of economic damage from the coronavirus pandemic.
NEW DELHI: Equity, currency, commodity and derivatives markets will be closed for trading on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 on account of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti. The bourses will reopen for trading on April 15, 2020, Wednesday.

Ambedkar is a Bharat Ratna awardee and is considered as the architect of India’s constitution.

After last week’s sharp recovery, benchmark indices closed in the red on Monday. BSE barometer Sensex closed 1.51 per cent or 470 points lower at 30,690, while its NSE peer Nifty shed 1.30 per cent or 118 points to close at 8,994.


Pharma stocks shined in an otherwise weak market. Glenmark, Aurobindo Pharma, Lupin, Dr Reddy’s Labs and Biocon were among the biggest gainers.

Globally, equities weakened on Monday as investors braced for more indications of economic damage from the coronavirus pandemic while oil prices rose in choppy trade following a landmark deal by Opec and its allies to cut output.

US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were up 3.9 per cent at $23.6 per barrel in a volatile session, having fallen more than 3 per cent to $22.03 earlier in the day.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan lost 0.3 per cent. The Nikkei fell 1.9 per cent, South Korean shares dropped 1.3 per cent while China's CSI300 index lost 0.5 per cent.
