MUMBAI: Shares of Sonata Software surged over 12 per cent in trade after the company reported strong results for quarter ended March 2014.Its standalone net profit surged 149.76 per cent to Rs 21.82 crore in Jan-March quarter from Rs 8.73 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.

According to analysts, higher PAT is higher is due to higher other income.

Net income for the period increased to Rs 94.23 crore, up 52.62 per cent, from Rs 61.74 crore in year-ago period. The company has recommended a final dividend of Rs. 2.75 per share (275% on par value of Re 1), subject to the approval of the shareholders.This along with the interim dividend of Rs 1 per share raises the total dividend for the year to Rs 3.75 per share.

At 09:40 a.m.; the stock was at Rs 50.90, up 13.24 per cent, on the BSE. It touched a high of Rs 51.85 and a low of Rs 48.50 in trade today.
