Siemens: Order from Jindal Stainless

MUMBAI: Siemens VAI along with Siemens Ltd has received an order from Jindal Stainless Ltd for a hot strip rolling mill at its greenfield project in Orissa. The order includes plant layout, mechanical equipment, drives as well as the entire basic and process automation. Production is scheduled to start in 2009.

Jindal Stainless is setting up a new 1.800 mm wide hot strip mill at Kalinganagar Durubi in Orissa, with annual production of 1.6 million tonne in the first phase. It will produce austenitic and ferritic stainless steel strips including a minor quantity of plates. In the subsequent phase, the plant can be upgraded to produce 3.2 mtpa by installing a second reheating furnace, a seventh mill stand and a second down coiler.

The scope of Siemens order will be to equip the new mill with the latest equipment such as hydraulic edger, HAGC in all mill stands, flatness control and new laminar cooling model. Siemens will also provide customer training, monitor installation of all the supplied components and systems as well as commission the installation, including fine adjustment of the technological models and control systems.

Today, the Siemens share was at Rs 1,174.10, down nearly 1 per cent going with the weakness in the market.
