Share market update: Telecom shares up; MTNL climbs over 3%

NEW DELHI: Telecom shares were trading with gains in Monday's afternoon session.

Shares of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (up 3.53 per cent), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (up 2.98 per cent), OnMobile Global (up 1.85 per cent) and Reliance Communications (up 1.52 per cent) were the top performers in the index.

Aksh Optifibre (up 1.23 per cent), Vindhya Telelinks (up 0.51 per cent), ITI (up 0.44 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (up 0.29 per cent) too were trading in the green.


Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Telecom index was trading 0.18 per cent down at 987.47 around 11:59 am.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 63.05 points at 11,851.90 while the BSE Sensex was up 240.91 points at 39,635.55.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 34 were trading in the green, while 15 were in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Spicejet, Suzlon Energy, BPCL, PNB, Bank of Baroda, NCC, NTPC and JSPL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
