Share market update: Telecom shares tumble; Bharti Airtel plunges nearly 6%

NEW DELHI: Telecom shares tumbled with the S&P BSE Telecom index down in the Friday's afternoon trading session.

The S&P BSE Telecom index was trading 3.76 per cent down at 998.29 around 12:29 pm.

Shares of Vodafone Idea (down 6.11 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 5.88 per cent), ITI (down 3.78 per cent) and GTPL Hathway (down 2.46 per cent) were trading with losses.


Tejas Networks (down 2 per cent), Reliance Communications (down 1.84 per cent ) and GTL (down 1.84 per cent) too were trading lower.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 30.80 points at 10,874.40 while the BSE Sensex was down 108.94 points at 36,265.14.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 21 were trading in the green, while 29 were in the red.

Shares of Reliance Communications, Sun Pharma, YES Bank, Jet Airways, Vakrangee, JP Associates, Tata Power, Adani Power, Suzlon Energy, Federal Bank, IDFC First Bank, South Indian Bank, EID Parry, JSPL and RIL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
