Share market update: Telecom shares trade higher; Vodafone Idea surges over 8%

NEW DELHI: Telecom shares were trading higher in Thursday's afternoon session.

Shares of Vodafone Idea (up 8.72 per cent), GTL Infrastructure (up 4.49 per cent), Vindhya Telelinks (up 4.35 per cent) and Aksh Optifibre (up 3.97 per cent) were the top gainers in the index.

Sterlite Technologies (up 3.53 per cent), Himachal Futuristic Communications (up 2.54 per cent) and Bharti Infratel (up 2.33 per cent) too were trading in the green.


The S&P BSE Telecom index was trading 2.14 per cent up at 981.39 around 12:41 pm.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 7.75 points at 11,070.20 while the BSE Sensex was up 24.41 points at 36,999.64.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 33 were trading in the green, while 17 were in the red.

Shares of Reliance Power, Reliance Communications, Reliance Infra, Relinace Capital, Vodafone Idea, Suzlon Energy, JP Associates, YES Bank, Ashok Leyland, Vakrangee, DHFL, Adani Power, Dish TV India, PC Jeweller, PNB and Allahabad Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
