Share market update: Telecom shares trade higher; Vodafone Idea jumps 5%

NEW DELHI: Telecom shares were trading with gains in Thursday's afternoon session.

Shares of Vodafone Idea (up 5.45 per cent), Reliance Communications (up 4.68 per cent), Bharti Infratel (up 3.09 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (up 2.36 per cent) were the top performers in the index.

OnMobile Global (up 1.89 per cent), Himachal Futuristic Communications (up 1.35 per cent), Tejas Networks (up 1.08 per cent) and Tata Communications (up 1.05 per cent) too were trading in the green.


The S&P BSE Telecom index was trading 2.52 per cent up at 1001 around 12:09 pm.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 2.90 points at 11,751.05 while the BSE Sensex was up 52.53 points at 39,084.08.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 21 were trading in the green, while 29 were in the red.

Shares of Reliance Power, YES Bank, Jet Airways, Reliance Capital, Ashok Leyland, ITC, Vodafone Idea, Reliance Infra, Reliance Communications, Suzlon Energy, Adani Power, DHFL, PC Jeweller, PNB, IDFC First Bank, Tata Motors and Vakrangee were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
