Share market update: Telecom shares rise; ITI surges 12%

NEW DELHI: Telecom shares were trading in the positive zone in Wednesday's morning session.

Shares of ITI (up 12.12 per cent) , Optiemus Infracom (up 4.99 per cent) , Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (up 4.90 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (up 2.75 per cent) were the top gainers in the index.

Bharti Infratel (up 2.72 per cent) , Vodafone Idea (up 2.08 per cent) , Tejas Networks (up 1.51 per cent) and Sterlite Technologies (up 1.41 per cent) too were trading in the green.


The S&P BSE Telecom index was trading 2.64 per cent up at 902.68 around 11:32 am.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 57.45 points at 11,844.30 while the BSE Sensex was up 219.24 points at 40,051.08.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 26 were trading in the green, while 22 were in the red.

Shares of HDFC Life Insurance Company, Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, BHEL, Tata Motors, Indian Oil Corp, NCC, NBCC and SAIL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
