Share market update: Telecom shares mixed; Vodafone Idea climbs 4%

NEW DELHI: Telecom shares were trading on a mixed note in Wednesday's afternoon session.

Shares of Vodafone Idea (up 3.78 per cent), GTPL Hathway (up 3.73 per cent), Bharti Airtel (up 2.32 per cent) and Bharti Infratel (up 1.40 per cent) were the top performers in the index.

GTL (down 9.24 per cent), GTL Infrastructure (down 8.47 per cent), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (down 4.68 per cent) and Reliance Communications (down 2.38 per cent) were trading lower.


The S&P BSE Telecom index was trading 2 per cent up at 939.19 around 11:39 am.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 111.05 points at 11,036.90 while the BSE Sensex was up 372.34 points at 37,330.50.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 38 were trading in the green, while 12 were in the red.

Shares of HDFC Life Insurance Company, YES Bank, Coal India, Vodafone Idea, Dish TV India, NALCO, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Spicejet, Ashok Leyland and Tata Motors were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
