Share market update: Metal stocks tumble; JSPL plunges nearly 6%

NEW DELHI: Metal stocks cracked in afternoon trade with the Nifty Metal index down 3.03 per cent at 3138.55 on Wednesday.

Shares of Jindal Steel & Power (down 5.87 per cent), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) (down 4.32 per cent), Hindalco Industries (down 4.22 per cent) and National Aluminium Company (down 3.30 per cent) were trading in the red.

Tata Steel (down 3.08 per cent), NMDC (down 3.04 per cent), Vedanta (down 2.79 per cent) and JSW Steel (down 2.47 per cent) too were trading lower.


Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 74.90 points at 10,794.6 while BSE Sensex was down 212.63 points at 35,921.68 around 01:05 pm.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 11 were trading in the green, while 39 were in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Ashok Leyland, Sun Pharma, Idea Cellular, BHEL, Tata Motors, Hindalco Industries, SAIL, Indian Oil Corp, Vedanta, ITC, Bank of Baroda, SBI, ONGC and NTPC were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
