Share market update: Metal shares gain; Welspun Corp rises over 2%

NEW DELHI: Metal shares were trading in the positive zone with the Nifty Metal index up 0.59 per cent at 2989.80 on Friday.

Shares of Welspun Corp (up 2.57 per cent), NMDC (up 1.37 per cent), Hindalco Industries (up 1.37 per cent) and JSW Steel (up 1.00 per cent) were the top performers in the index.

Vedanta (up 0.95 per cent), Jindal Steel & Power (up 0.73 per cent), Hindustan Copper (up 0.61 per cent) and MOIL (up 0.48 per cent) too were trading higher.


Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 40.35 points at 10,781.25 while the BSE Sensex was down 129.68 points at 35,976.82 around 11:55 am.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 17 were trading in the green, while 32 were in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, ITC, Hindalco Industries, TCS, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda, SBI, Vedanta, Axis Bank, Infosys, SAIL and Indian Oil Corp were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
